Bill started his martial arts career in 1989 studying Tang So Do in Pocatello, Idaho. A year later he moved to
Texas, where he studied boxing for several years. However, after seeing how effective ground fighting
could be in neutralizing and destroying much larger opponents, which was exemplified by Royce Gracie
in UFC 1, he commenced his grappling quest by way of Judo. Like many, he was a little naïve back then and didn’t really know the difference between Judo and BJJ. It was all the same to him. Bill was an active Judo competitor, winning several local tournaments, which included a gold medal at Texas State Jr Olympics.
In 1996 he took a hiatus from competition and Judo due to his enlistment in the US Navy. “Non sibi sed
patriaeIn.”
In 2009 he began training at Hidden Valley judo and Jiu Jitsu in Draper, Utah under Professor
Michael Hermosillo (the gym eventually moved and is now known as Hidden Valley MMA. If you are ever
in the area you should definitely check it out.).
Under Professor Hermosillo he competed and won several
tournaments including: winning gold at NAGA blue belt division, first place at the Idaho State Judo
Championship - Black and Brown belt division, and silver at the Utah State Championship.
In 2012 Bill had the extreme honor of being awarded a Shodan in Judo from Professor Micheal Hermosillo and Sensei Bill
Class. He's currently a Brown belt in BJJ under professor Hermosillo. Bill Loves teaching and he pours his heart
into being a Coach. His goal is to make every student become more than what they even believed they could be. Bill is a highly sought after coach and MMA corner-man. At a competition, he's usually the loudest voice in the room. Come over and say hi.
